Why has your baby not started speaking yet?What causes Speech Delay in Kids?

Speech delay among children is more common these days than ever before!! Earlier Babies would start speaking around 1.5 years of age but now a days they don't start until 2 to 2.5.

Some common causes of speech delay among babies are ⤵

1) Screen time- Screen time takes away time from one on one interactions. Every minute spend infront of T.V or moblie screen , decreases time available for practicing real life interactions!!
 

2) Smaller families (yes, I know it's harsh) It's true, that earlier, children growing up in big joint families had a greater chance of communication. But now a days, it's just one mom.. already busy with tonnes of chores,  to practice talking with.

3) Another less dangerous cause is baby being too active ( which was true in my baby's case). She would just not sit or stop to give me a chance to have a decent conversation with her 😛

Other serious causes are⤵

1) hearing loss
2) slow development
3) sometimes,  tongue tie can also make it difficult to pronounce some sounds but it never causes delay in learning speech
3) some other serious developmental issue.

When u don't need to worry???
1)They are pointing out towards things and expressing by gestures by 1 year of age
2) If the child is speaking simple words such as mama, papa by 12-15 months of age.
3) They understand and obey Ur instructions by 18 months.
3) they can make small 4-5 words sentences by the age of 3.
If the above mentioned milestones delayed by 2-3 months, u still don't worry!!

Finally, follow Ur instincts.. a mother knows the baby best.. if u feel there is something wrong .. don't postpone consulting Ur doctor!!
