How to make your baby sleep faster!
How to make your baby sleep faster??
Putting a baby to sleep is a tiring task, specially for new mommies as typical newborns wake up every two hours for feeding or nappy change. Around 3 months of age, babies do start sleeping for longer intervals at a stretch, if not through night.
A baby sleeping for longer intervals is not only a relief for tired mommies but their longer sleep duration is also needed for their utmost growth.
Hence, its been recommended equally by experts and veteran moms to start training your baby for a sound sleep right from beginning.
When should you start?
The sooner the better.
What can be done to train a new born?
No matter what you do.. your newborn will wake up every two hours or so. But you can still teach them the difference between day and night by making days bright and nights dim. Once you do that your baby will slowly start differentiating between day and night and they would know that days are for play and nights are for sleep!!
Once the baby approaches twelve weeks you can start training her to sleep better by following these steps:
1) Setting up a routine
If a baby is woken up and put to bed almost same time every day, their biological clocks get used to it. Slowly, it becomes a routine for them.
2) Avoid late evening naps
Of course the baby does need one or two afternoon naps but don't let them sleep for long hours. Also don't let them sleep in the evenings because then they may become fresh again and won't sleep easily.
3) Evening Playtime
Make it a ritual to take your baby for a stroll in the evening. Exploring the surroundings with their tiny eyes is great for their developing brain. Its also a great exercise for moms. Toddlers can be engaged in games in a park or play-ground. This will get them tired and ready for sleep.
4) Dinner
One of the main reason behind a baby waking up at night is hunger. Try to give your baby a heavy meal in dinner so he stays full at night and does not wake up for feedings. DO remember to not to overfeed though... as it may ache their little tummies!
5) Bed-time rituals
Bed-time is the best time for mommies to bond with their babies. There is a plenty of stuff you could do with your little precious that will not only soothe them but eventually get them ready for sleep.
If weather allows, you may start with a warm bath. A gentle massage too relaxes their tiny tired muscles and quickly send them into sleep zone. You may also sing soothing lullabies and breast feed them a little more so that they sleep all night.
6) Teach self-soothing
While putting them to sleep, do remember that you don't have to put them in bed fully asleep. They rather be half asleep when they hit the bed. This will teach them to soothe themselves and sleep on their own.
